Model 2557 is an optical asynchronous mini bit-driver for RS-232 communication over fiber optic cable, supporting simplex or full-duplex operation at 50 to 115 Kbps. It features ST connector receptacles for fiber interface with an SMA option, and is powered by the DTE's RS-232 port without external power. The device operates over distances up to 300 meters (1000 ft) with a 50-micron core fiber, supports DTE or DCE mode via switch, and includes LED indicators for transmit and receive activity. It has a metal enclosure measuring 1.75 x 3 x 0.625 inches (4.5 x 7.5 x 1.6 cm), weighs 0.25 lb (100 g), and operates from 0 to 50 °C. It meets FCC Class A, Part 15 requirements.
