The Model 2503 is an optical asynchronous/synchronous mini modem designed for full-duplex communication over fiber optic cables, supporting speeds up to 9.6 Kbps synchronous and 19.2 Kbps asynchronous with RS-232 interface and control signals. It features an ST connector for fiber optic connection, with an SMA option, and operates over distances up to 2000 meters using 50-micron fiber or up to 5000 meters with single-mode fiber. The device operates from 0°C to 50°C, housed in a metal enclosure measuring 1.75 × 3 × 0.625 inches (4.5 × 7.5 × 1.6 cm), with panel or DIN rail mounting options.
