The PCA9535 is a 16-bit I/O expander designed for I¬=C and SMBus interfaces, operating within a voltage range of 2.3 V to 5.5 V. It features low standby current consumption of 1 OºA maximum, making it suitable for low-power applications. The device supports up to eight units on the same I¬=C bus through three hardware address pins. It includes two 8-bit configuration registers for input/output selection, as well as input and output port registers. The interrupt output is open-drain and activates when input states differ from their corresponding registers, allowing efficient communication with a microcontroller. The PCA9535 is capable of driving LEDs directly due to its latched outputs with high-current drive capability. It also includes a polarity inversion register for active-high or active-low operation. The device's latch-up performance exceeds 100 mA per JESD 78, class II, and it offers robust ESD protection, exceeding 2000 V for the human-body model. The PCA9535 is compatible with most microcontroller families and is available in multiple package types, including TSSOP.
