In order to generate superheated steam, SCHNEIDER-Three Pass Boilers can be equipped with different superheater systems.
For lower steam temperatures (superheating by 40 to 60 K), the superheater is installed within the front reversing chamber..This arrangement does not call for any particular measures when starting up the boiler, such as cooling of the superheater or any flue gas side bypass dampers, since the flue gas temperature in the front reversing chamber is significantly below the scaling temperature of the material used for the superheater tubes. These superheaters are called “steam dryers” and are operated without temperature control.
For higher steam temperatures, the superheater is installed within the rear reversing chamber. As a result, higher steam temperatures are achieved. A superheater of this temperature level is operated with temperature control, various control systems are available. In order to avoid the superheater tubes to be burnt in this temperature level, the start up must be carried out very carefully.
Depending on arrangement and design the start up must be on the lowest possible load before connecting the boiler to the grid, or a sophisticated cooling system must be installed.
