At the heart of the TD12 is a 300mm (12.00") Tannoy Dual Concentric™ drive unit featuring a new cone material and twin-roll surround providing enhanced midrange performance and tight, fast bass with tremendous low frequency extension. The cone material is manufactured from a composite of several different fibres. The mix of fibres has been carefully chosen to obtain a light but very stiff structure providing exceptional grip and control of bass transients.The multi-faceted trapezoidal design of the cabinet, with it's sloping top and bottom panels, reduces internal standing waves to minimise colouration. The birch ply enclosure is comprehensively internally braced to improve rigidity and further reduce the amplitude of panel resonance. The finish is a stunning combination of real cherry veneer and polished alloy trim. The matching SuperTweeter™, machined out of a solid block of alloy, sits on a cushion of black velvet so as not to re-radiate high frequency energy off the cabinet top panel. The acoustically inert velvet and the low diffraction rounded edge of the baffle ensure superior imaging. Two heavyweight solid aluminum cones and rear floor-coupling spikes ensure any residual cabinet energy is efficiently dissipated.
