The LFLS7183-S is an Encoder to Counter Interface Chip designed to facilitate the connection of incremental encoders to standard up/down counters. It supports x1, x2, or x4 resolution multiplication and is compatible with both TTL and CMOS logic levels. The chip operates within a power supply range of 3V to 5V and consumes low current in the micro-amp range. It comes in an 8-pin SOIC package and requires no external clocks for operation. The LFLS7183-S is an improved version of the LFLS7083-S, featuring enhanced output pulse timing characteristics and should be prioritized for new product designs.
The LSI Computer Systems LFLS7183-S allow incremental encoders to drive standard up/down counters. Connect the encoder quadrature outputs to the A & B inputs. The LFLS7183-S outputs can connect directly to the up and down clock inputs of counters such as 74193 or 40193. The LFLS7183-S is an improved version of the LFLS7083-S and should be considered first for all new product designs. The primary differences between the old and new LS chips are the addition of a x2 resolution multiplication, power supply operating range and improved output pulse timing characteristics.
