Our most popular protein crystallography system, the HighFlux HomeLab is a complete home X-ray diffraction system that enables data collection on a wide range of protein crystal samples. As all of Rigaku’s protein crystallography systems, the HKL3000-R software suite provides instrument control, data processing, and structure solution capabilities.
The foundation of this system is the Rigaku MicroMax™-007 HF, a second generation true microfocus rotating anode generator. With its unique 70 x 70 micron anode focal spot, long uptimes and reduced maintenance requirements, the MicroMax-007 HF has taken rotating anode technology to the next level.
Coupled with a VariMax optic, this uniquely small focal spot leads to a intense, monochromatic beam on the sample which is the perfect complement to optimize signal-to-noise for the small crystals used in today's protein laboratories. The usable flux produced by the HighFlux HomeLab is up to 20 times greater than that of a conventional generator and optic, enabling the collection of quality data on small crystals that diffract too weakly on standard home sources.
The HighFlux HomeLab can be configured with either a CCD based area detector or an imaging plate area detector. Actually since their are two ports available on the X-ray generator, a lab could choose to have both a CCD detector and an imaging plate based detector. Both types of detector have their strengths and one of each gives a lab the widest capabilities. For the CCD detector, the Saturn 944 HG is the standard model, while two choices of imaging plate detectors can be selected: the R-AXIS IV++, with two imaging plates, or the R-AXIS HTC, with three imaging plates for higher throughput.
