The POC-400F is a magnetic particle clutch designed to transmit torque proportionally to input current, enabling precise torque control in applications requiring slip. It has a torque range of 4 to 300 lb.-ft., a maximum speed of 1800 RPM, and a maximum case temperature of 160°F. The clutch weighs 259 lbs and is designed for horizontal mounting only. It requires a 3.5 A maximum input current, with coil resistance ranging from 6.9 to 8.3 ohms depending on temperature. Heat dissipation reaches up to 1900 watts with piped air at 21 psi and 14 ft.³/minute. Output shaft inertia is 1.33 lb.-in.-sec² and input shaft inertia is 2.15 lb.-in.-sec². The maximum overhung load is 325 lbs. Compressed air cooling connects via a 3/8-19 BSPT port. The clutch must be grounded and mounted with a flexible coupling between rigidly mounted shafts.
Placid magnetic particle clutches, also called magnetic powder clutches, provide a wide operating Torque Range. The torque is smooth and repeatable, thereby allowing for accurate control independent of the speed. The torque vs. current curve is nearly linear, making these clutches uniquely suited for tension control unwind/rewind applications, load simulation, torque limiting, and adjustable soft starts. Available in small and large sizes with torque ranging from 0.3 to 300 lb.-feet.
