The C70 magnetic particle clutch is designed for torque control in applications requiring smooth, slip-based operation. It has a torque range of 2 to 70 lb.-in. and operates at a maximum speed of 1000 RPM. The clutch dissipates up to 50 watts continuously and has a maximum case temperature limit of 160 degrees F. It weighs 17 lbs. and features a 66 × 10⁻⁵ lb.-in.-sec² output shaft inertia. Response time is 90 ms unforced and 45 ms forced. Rated coil voltages are 6 VDC, 12 VDC, 24 VDC, and 90 VDC, with corresponding resistances of 2.7, 11, 44, and 550 ohms. The unit requires a flexible coupling, precise shaft alignment, and electrical grounding. Maximum overhung load is 80 lbs. Installation must avoid mechanical shock and contamination from metal particles.
Placid magnetic particle clutches, also called magnetic powder clutches, provide a wide operating Torque Range. The torque is smooth and repeatable, thereby allowing for accurate control independent of the speed. The torque vs. current curve is nearly linear, making these clutches uniquely suited for tension control unwind/rewind applications, load simulation, torque limiting, and adjustable soft starts. Available in small and large sizes with torque ranging from 0.3 to 300 lb.-feet.
