DuraBeryllium windows are composed of high purity beryllium and a thin layer of DuraCoat®. DuraCoat is a low-Z material that when applied to beryllium creates a hermetic, corrosion resistant window that is used for ultra-high vacuum applications (leak tight is better than 3x10-10 mbar L/sec of helium). DuraBeryllium is resistant to atmospheric moisture, many chemicals, and light abrasion. DuraBeryllium windows can be cleaned using most solvents and is not a health hazard. Moxtek® is capable of attaching and coating beryllium windows as thin as 8 μm.
Temperature Performance
Brazed DuraBeryllium windows can withstand temperatures up to 400°C in vacuum or 350°C in air. Adhesive bonded Beryllium and DuraBeryllium windows can be exposed to temperatures above 100 °C at a Differential Pressure of 1 atm on some mount designs.
