FTL Technology Thermoplastic Bearings

Description
Polyoxymethylene, also known as acetal, polyacetal and polyformaldehyde, is an engineering thermoplastic used in precision parts requiring high stiffness, low friction, and excellent dimensional stability. Polyacetal bearings are uniquely suited to applications with abrasive atmospheres, where dust or other abrasive particles are a constant problem. Polyacetal bearings are also commonly used in a wide variety of lubricated applications and because of its excellent chemical resistance, is used in preference to other types of plastic materials. Polyacetal bearing exhibit very low levels of dynamic friction and virtually zero stick slip characteristics. Overall, the mechanical properties of polyacetal bearings are excellent. Good dimensional stability and very low water absorption give this material an appealing range of load bearing qualities. Average compressive loads of 25 n/mm² and linear velocities of 1 m/s are achievable in the case of cylindrical bearings used in hydraulic cylinders for example. In this type of dynamic application, special attention should be paid to the hardness and surface finish of the dynamic counter surface. Polyacetal bearings can be injection moulded and machined to give its final form. In certain cases, it may be desirable to add specific fillers to the base resin. This allows the material properties to be enhanced or aligned to a specific set of application parameters. This gives FTL Technology the ability to offer solutions which are tailored to the application parameters and manufacturing volumes in question. Advantages: High strength High rigidity Low water absorption High dimensional stability High solvent resistance Low coefficient of friction Common Applications: Hydraulic cylinder bearings Valve spindles Hot and cold water pumps Vertical pumps Chemical pumps Spur gears Medical apparatus
