The StarTOC TOC/TN On-Line Process Analyzer uses high temperature combustion with proven chemiluminescence technology to perform reliably for both TOC and Total Nitrogen analysis. Chemiluminescence: In the combustion reactor, the nitrogen in the sample is converted to nitric oxide (NO). This is then combined with ozone (O3), which takes the NO to a highly oxidized, yet unstable state. This reaction then very quickly decays, emitting light. This small amount of light is then quantified and is proportional to the nitrogen content of the sample.
