The H250 hysteresis brake is a magnetically actuated device that couples the shaft to the housing when electrically excited, with torque proportional to input current and independent of RPM. It operates smoothly across all speeds due to an auto-decogging feature requiring one shaft revolution to reset. Torque ranges from 6 to 250 oz.-in., with a maximum RPM of 5000 and a maximum case temperature of 200°F. The brake dissipates up to 65 watts with the cover and 110 watts without, and supports a maximum overhung load of 50 lb. Shaft inertia is 29 × 10⁻⁴ lb.-in.-sec², with an 85 msec uncoupled response time. It weighs 9 lb. and requires a constant-current DC power supply for stable torque control. Installation requires rigid alignment, flexible coupling, and electrical grounding. The brake has no friction surfaces and produces torque via an air gap, enabling long life under continuous slip.
Torque is proportional to input current, and independent of RPM. Torque is especially smooth, even at near-zero RPM. Also good for light tension / high RPM applications, due to good heat dissipation ratings. All models except H3 have the Cog-Buster which keeps slip torque smooth.
