Gilson offers dead-weight or pneumatic shear machines with varying stress and strain measurement capabilities. The HM-380R Direct/Residual Shear Machine is a motorized, dead-weight testing machine designed for direct and residual shear testing of undisturbed and remolded soil samples. A solid 1-1/4in (32mm) base for the Shear Box assembly is mounted on a sturdy steel cabinet, with heavy duty casters for easy mobility. The compact, self-contained unit is built for harsh laboratory environments and requires little floor space. The unit uses a 10:1 beam loading device to control confining pressures. A load cell with digital readout measures shear force and dial indicators to indicate vertical and shear displacement. Optional Displacement Transducers with digital readouts provide output to user’s PC. HM-738 Displacement Transducer has 0.6in (15.2mm) range with 0.0001in (0.0025mm) resolution. HM- 739 Displacement Transducer has 1in (25.4mm) range and 0.0001in (0.0025mm) resolution. A stepper motor drive controls the strain rate within 1%, and is easily adjustable using digital thumb wheel controls. The strain rate can be set from 0.0001-0.3in/min (.0025-7.62mm/min). Maximum shear displacement is 0.8in (20.3mm). Travel is set with limit switches. Vertical load capacity is 1,411lb (640kg) and maximum horizontal shear force is 1,500lbf (6,672N). The basic system includes a 2.5in (63.5mm) diameter stainless steel shear ring, porous stones, drainage plates, loading block, and a water chamber constructed of Teflon coated anodized aluminum for corrosion resistance. See table for additional shear rings and boxes. Selection of one weight set is required. Choose from US or Metric weight sets, shown below. Additional individual weights are available upon request.
