3M,Ñ¢ Scotch-Weld,Ñ¢ Structural Adhesive Primer EW-5000 is a water-based, heat-curing epoxy primer designed for corrosion protection in various environments. It features a corrosion-inhibiting package and can be applied using conventional spraying or brush techniques. The primer allows for ambient temperature drying and is handleable prior to the baking process, which simplifies application. The product can achieve a target thickness of 0.20 to 0.25 mil (5 to 6 ¬µ) in two passes, offering high spray transfer efficiency and coverage that is 3 to 6 times greater than solvent-borne primers. It is qualified under BMS 5-89 and BMS 5-137 standards, ensuring its reliability for aerospace applications. Typical cured properties include a glossy to semi-glossy appearance, a pencil hardness rating of 7H, and excellent resistance to salt spray exposure. The primer demonstrates strong adhesion performance in various conditions, including high temperatures and exposure to chemicals like Skydrol¬Æ and JP-4 fuel. The recommended storage temperature is between 35 to 45¬8F (1 to 7¬8C), and the product has a shelf life of 12 months when stored properly.
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Primer EW-5000 is a sprayable, waterbased, low VOC, heat curing, chromated, corrosion inhibiting primer that can provide protection against corrosive environments.
Scotch-Weld EW-5000 primer is designed to provide ambient temperature drying with handleability prior to the heat cycle. Scotch-Weld EW-5000 primer meets the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule 1124 VOC limit with less than 250 g per liter.
