Up to 1000° C., MACOR is suitable in an air atmosphere. Fluorine evolution will take place in vacuum systems if the temperature is higher than 600 °C, manifesting as hydrofluoric acid or boron trifluoride.
Halogen acids destroy MACOR at high temperatures. It is noticeably more NaOH resistant. Alkali salts barely have any corrosion-causing power.
Using common metalworking tools, MACOR is easily machined. It doesn't need to be fired after being machined because it is totally dense and hermetic. It is simple to maintain tolerances of fewer than 10 microns.
