Small-diaphragm, end-address true condenser cardioid microphone with 20-dB attenuation switch.
The AKG Perception 170 is a small-diaphragm, end-address true condenser microphone designed primarily for accurate pickup of musical instruments for recording or live sound applications. The Perception 170 delivers excellent performance with snare drum, hi-hat, drum overheads, percussion, acoustic guitars or other stringed instruments where its incredible transient response reproduces these sounds quite accurately. The Perception 170 features a 20-dB attenuation switch on the back of the microphone which allows it to be used in sound fields as high as 155 dB with less than 0.5% THD allowing it to be used on the loudest sources without overload. The Perception 170's response is characterized by smooth lows and mids with a carefully-shaped presence rise in the upper mids and highs that bring the captured sound forward in the mix without being bright or strident. The mic's features a rugged die-cast metal chassis equipped with a gold-plated 3-pin XLR-type output for loss-free signal transfer and for immunity against RF pickup. To deliver its high performance, the Perception 170 requires 48-volt phantom power. The microphone is shipped with a flexible stand mount included. Backed by a two-year parts and labor warranty from AKG, the Perception 170 is a high-performance value.
