Product Description
The RL-P rotary shaft encoder directly couples to a rotating shaft and produces a specified number of square wave output counts per revolution of the shaft. The number of counts per revolution is determined by setting configuration switches accessible through an access port near the connector. Any one of a predefined set of counts per revolution are available.
It comes with a 3/8", 1/2", or 5/8" shaft for heavy duty applications where a face mounted encoder is required. The rugged 3" diameter by 2-3/8" deep enclosure is constructed of 1/4" thick aluminum with a 5 or 6 pin connector on the side.
When coupled to a rotating shaft, either directly with a flexible coupling or using a timing belt, it converts shaft rotation into square wave outputs.
The number and types of outputs are based on an integrated micro-controller and a factory installed program. Various programs were developed to meet the specific needs of different applications. Many programs offer installation time options that are configured using DIP switches located near the connector.
The following are examples of existing program outputs and features:
User selectable counts per revolution (cpr)
User selectable output circuit
2 or 3 pulse outputs with differing counts per revolution
User selectable quadrature outputs
Anti-jitter and enhanced anti-jitter features
Direction indicator
Minimum speed detector
Fractional counts per revolution, such as 2.5 cpr
Multiplier that increases the maximum cpr
