The ADV601LCJST is an ultralow cost, single-chip video codec designed for real-time compression and decompression of CCIR-601 digital video. It supports compression ratios from visually loss-less to 350:1, making it suitable for applications requiring high image quality, such as PC video editing, remote CCTV surveillance, and digital camcorders. The codec features an 8-bit video interface compatible with CCIR-656 and multiplexed Philips formats, along with a general-purpose 16- or 32-bit host interface that includes a 512-deep 32-bit FIFO for efficient data handling. The ADV601LCJST operates at field rates of 50 Hz for PAL and 60 Hz for NTSC, with a maximum active field size of 720 by 288 pixels and a pixel rate of up to 14.75 MHz. Its architecture includes a wavelet kernel for advanced filtering and compression, a programmable quantizer for adaptive bit rate control, and integrated DRAM management for efficient memory use.
