The TNY256Y is a low power offline switcher from the TinySwitch Plus family, designed for energy-efficient applications. It features a fully integrated auto-restart function that limits short circuit current and a line under-voltage sense to prevent turn-off glitches. The device operates efficiently with a no-load consumption of only 30/60 mW at 115/230 VAC, making it suitable for applications such as cellular phone chargers and adapters. This switcher supports a wide input voltage range of 85-265 VAC and is capable of delivering output power ranging from 5 to 10 W in enclosed adapters and up to 8 to 15 W in open frame power supplies. The TNY256Y incorporates frequency jittering to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) by 5 to 10 dB, which can minimize the need for additional filtering components. The device is housed in a TO-220-7B package and integrates a 700 V power MOSFET, oscillator, and various protection features including thermal shutdown and current limit.
