The POB-200 is a magnetic particle brake providing torque control from 2 to 130 lb.-ft. with proportional response to input current up to 2.7 amps, independent of shaft speed. It has a maximum RPM of 1800 and dissipates 425 watts at 100 RPM or 800 watts at 1000 RPM, increasing to 1200 watts with compressed air cooling at 7 psi and 6 ft.³/minute. Maximum case temperature is 160°F, and maximum overhung load is 200 lbs. The unit weighs 117 lbs. and has a shaft inertia of 0.81 lb.-in.-sec². It must be mounted horizontally, grounded, and connected via a flexible coupling with precise shaft alignment. A 3/8-19 BSPT port accepts compressed air for enhanced cooling. Coil resistance increases from 7.9 ohms at 68°F to 9.5 ohms at 160°F. A constant-current DC power supply is recommended.
Placid magnetic particle brakes, also called powder brakes and mag particle brakes, provide smooth and repeatable torque control. Torque is proportional to input current, and independent of shaft speed, thereby allowing for precise control. These self-contained magnetic particle brakes are ideal for tension control, load simulation, and soft stops. Some large units are available with fan or pneumatic cooling. Torque rating from 1 oz.-in to 300 lb.-ft.
