Newport MKS Motorized Linear Stage, Linear Motor, 500 mm Travel, 1/4-20, No Cable IMS500LM-S

Description
The IMS500LM-S Linear Motor Translation Stage is designed for self-supporting applications with a 500 mm travel range and 1/4-20 mounting holes. The stage features a robust design and high performance at low cost, making it a cost-effective solution for precision industrial and laboratory applications such as semiconductor wafer inspection, micro-electronics test and assembly, DNA sequencing or laser machining. The linear motor employs a centered, high efficiency 3-phase synchronous iron core, linear motor as driving element, providing high speed, high acceleration and high system responsiveness. Associated driver module and cable kit is required and must be purchased separately. See accessories section. Reliable Straightness Over Long Travel Ranges The IMS-LM stages employ straightness compensation methods to offer improved straightness performance over long travel ranges of up to 1.2 meters. They are designed for self-supporting applications and are a cost-effective solution for precision industrial and laboratory systems. FEM Optimized Extremely Stiff Aluminum Body The IMS-LM series utilizes an extremely stiff, FEM optimized extruded aluminum body which minimizes the bi-metal bending effect caused by different thermal expansion coefficients of aluminum and steel. The unique, rigid body design of the IMS-LM provides high motion performance over long distance and reduces deflection under load without compromising on weight. The high stiffness of the IMS-LM stages results in very short settling times that improve the performance and throughput of many stepping, scanning, and continuous machining processes. 20 nm Minimum Incremental Motion IMS-LM stages are capable of performing very small incremental motions with high accuracy and reliability. Precision position feedback is supplied by a highly repeatable linear scale mounted inside the stage. The encoder signals are interpolated by Newport’s XPS motion controller with 20 nm minimum incremental motion for outstanding repeatability and stability. Absolute home position and limit signals are incorporated in the linear scale to improve repeatability and reliability, without additional electronics or mechanical parts for optimal precision. Non-Contact Drive Linear Motor The high efficiency, iron-core linear motor has the advantage of higher speed, acceleration and system responsiveness with no wear of motor brushes or drive screws, significantly reducing heat generation. The IMS-LM is the optimum solution for applications that require high-throughput, high reliability, and ultra-quiet operation even when traveling long distances. Recirculating Ball Bearings Slides The recirculating ball bearing slides provide excellent payload capabilities and longer life with accurate linear trajectory. It mitigates the issue of ball cage migration, which is typically found on linear ball bearings or crossed roller bearings. Hard Stoppers IMS-LM stages use electrical end-of-run and elastomer bumper hard stops to stop the carriage as smoothly as possible past the end-of-runs. The overtravel allowed by the hard stops is 8 mm, and when used with Newport XPS controllers, any commanded motion out of the travel range is not allowed.
