The SG2846 is a current mode PWM controller designed for fixed frequency operation with dual sink/source outputs. It operates within a supply voltage range of 8 to 40V and is rated for ambient temperatures from -25¬8C to 85¬8C. The device features automatic feed-forward compensation, programmable pulse-by-pulse current limiting, and automatic symmetry correction for push-pull configurations. It supports enhanced load response characteristics and allows for parallel operation of power modules while ensuring equal current sharing. Protection features include under-voltage lockout, programmable current limit, soft-start capability, and a shutdown function that can either restart automatically or latch off the supply. The SG2846 also incorporates a differential current sense amplifier with a wide common-mode range, double pulse suppression, and provides 200mA totem-pole outputs. The device is capable of operating at frequencies up to 500kHz and includes a ¬±1% trimmed bandgap reference for improved accuracy.
The SG1846 family of control ICs provides the required features to implement Fixed Frequency, Current mode control schemes while maintaining a minimum external parts count. The advanced performance of this technique can be measured in improved line regulation, enhanced load response characteristics, and a simpler, easier-to-design control loop. Topological advantages include, inherent pulse-by-pulse current limiting capability, automatic symmetry correction for push-pull converters, and the ability to parallel “power modules” while maintaining equal current sharing.
Protection circuitry includes built-in under-voltage lockout and programmable current limit in addition to soft start capability. A shutdown function is also available which can initiate either a complete shutdown with automatic restart, or latch the supply off.
Other features include fully latched operation, double-pulse suppression, dead-time adjust capability, and a ±1% trimmed bandgap reference.
