IHS ESDU Buckling stress coefficients for flat rectangular plates in compression. (Edges restrained against rotation - antisymmetric rotation.) STRUCT 02.01.22

Description
ESDU Struct 02.01.22 gives a graph plotting the buckling stress coefficient against plate length to width ratio for a plate loaded along its length under uniform compression, each curve relating to a different value of elastic rotational restraint at the long edges of the plate. The number of half-waves into which the plate buckles along its length is also shown. The buckling stress coefficient relates the buckling stress to the modulus of elasticity multiplied by the square of the ratio of plate thickness to width. All edges are assumed to remain straight, but the edges loaded in compression are free to rotate. The stresses are assumed to lie in the elastic range. The data relate to the case when the stringers along the long edges rotate in the same sense as occurs with stringers that are torsionally weak; the case of the stringers twisting in opposite senses is considered in ESDU 72019.
