IHS ESDU Inter-rivet buckling curves for specific materials. STRUCT 02.01.09

ESDU Struct 02.01.09 makes use of the curves in ESDU Struct 02.01.08 to construct a graph from which the edge stress at which the sheet between the rivets buckles may be read, knowing the rivet pitch and the sheet thickness. The curves are drawn for three UK aluminium alloys, BS 3L73, BS 2L88 and BS L104, using a value of the rivet fixity coefficient appropriate to a snaphead rivet. The material properties required, which include the factors needed for use in the equation for the stress-strain curve beyond the limit of proportionality given in ESDU 76016, were taken from ESDU 76016. The curves therefore cover buckling in the plastic range. The method by which the curves were constructed from the curves in ESDU Struct 02.01.08 is explained. ESDU 90002 introduces a program that enables the edge stress for buckling between the rivets to be computed directly.
