IHS ESDU Estimation of approach speed. PERF EG6/2

Description
ESDU Perf EG6/2 discusses determining the speed for three types of approach: visual, instrument and carrier. For each case a recommendation is made for speed based on stall and using a criterion for calculating the speed based on speed stability considerations. The use of the methods is illustrated with a worked example and another worked example shows how use of an automatic throttle can improve speed stability. The need to consider thrust availability for overshooting and throttle response are also considered.
