IHS ESDU Approximate estimation of braking thrust of propellers (piston engines). PERF ED1/2

Description
ESDU Perf ED1/2 gives curves of power and thrust coefficient as a function of total activity factor and blade angle at 0.7 radius. ESDU Perf ED1/1 provides information on the estimation of blade activity factor. A knowledge of the propeller speed and engine power in braking allows the power coefficient to be calculated and hence the blade angle is found from the power curves; the thrust is then found from the thrust curves. A worked example illustrates the use of the data.
