IHS ESDU Pitching moment of low-aspect-ratio cropped-delta wings up to high angles of attack at subsonic speeds. 95022

Description
ESDU 95022 presents graphical data for centre of pressure position of delta and rectangular wings of aspect ratio 0.25 to 4 for angles of attack up to 90 degrees. They were obtained by correlating results from the literature. However, for cropped-delta wings there were fewer data and it only proved possible to present graphs applying to pre-stall conditions for angles of attack up to 30 degrees, aspect ratio from 0.1 to 4 and taper ratios from 0.1 to 0.5, although a method of extrapolation to taper ratios from 0.5 to unity is suggested. The correlation in that case also involved the aerodynamic centre position, a graph for which is reproduced from ESDU 70011. The methods apply at low subsonic speeds; a method of extrapolating to high Mach numbers is given but is tentative for the rectangular and cropped-delta wings although for delta wings it is found to work well at Mach numbers up to 0.95. The method applies to thin, sharp-edged wings without camber or twist. It is accurate to 2 per cent of root chord length. The pitching moment is obtained using the normal-force data from ESDU 93034.
