IHS ESDU Response of structures to atmospheric turbulence. Computer programs A9236 and B9236. 92036

Description
ESDU 92036 introduces ESDUpacs A9236 and B9236 for the calculation of response of structures due to respectively the along-wind and across-wind components of turbulence. The first program is based on ESDU 87035 and 88019, while the second is based on ESDU 89049. Four separate cases may be treated. The first is a uniform ground-based vertical cantilever, and responses are deflection and acceleration at the top and bending moment at the base. The second is a uniform line-like structure that may be inclined in the cross-wind plane with its base above ground level; responses are deflection, acceleration and bending moment at mid-span of a single-span structure, or deflection and acceleration at the tip, and bending moment at the base, of a cantilever. The final cases are for non-uniform structures with mass distribution and width varying along the structure. For the non-uniform ground-based cantilever, deflection, acceleration, shear force and bending moment at any height may be requested. For the non-uniform general case, the structure may be inclined in the cross-wind plane and the base may be above ground; responses for such cantilevered structures are the same as for the uniform ground-based cantilever, while for a single-span structure deflection and acceleration may be requested at any height with, for fixed or pinned ends, the shear force at the ends and the bending moment at mid-span and, additionally, for fixed ends only, the bending moment at the ends.
