IHS ESDU Effect of fretting on fatigue strength of titanium alloys. 88027

Description
ESDU 88027 plots as stress versus endurance the results extracted from the literature of over 400 fretting fatigue tests carried out on five alloys. The results allow the detrimental effect of fretting and the effect of clamping pressure to be determined. Most of the tests were made in a normal temperature air environment, but the effect of salt water and elevated temperature is also shown. The effect of various surface coatings and treatments is presented so that their relative performance can be compared. The curves appear on 21 graphs, each accompanied by a table containing such information as the alloy composition, treatments applied, test arrangements, and alloy tensile strength and proof stress.
