IHS ESDU Calculation methods for along-wind loading. Part 2. Response of line-like structures to atmospheric turbulence. 87035

Description
ESDU 87035 provides a step-by-step calculation procedure for the loading, accelerations and deflections of line-like structures such as bridges, masts and towers, or structural elements such as beams or columns which can be fixed at either one or both ends. The loading is derived as the sum of a mean component together with background and resonant fluctuating components. Precalculated loading factors, based on the wind model in the Series, are included in graphical and equation form for estimation of the fluctuating components. The input data necessary are discussed and, where appropriate, approximate values are provided. A calculation sheet for the method is included and its use illustrated with a worked example. Comparisons are made with results obtained using the superseded method of ESDU Data Item 76001, which is found to have been slightly optimistic. See ESDU 92036 for a Fortran program of the method presented here.
