ESDU 86005 gives the characteristics of aircraft-type cross-ply tyres under load normal to the runway surface. Equations for tyre deflection are primarily for establishing aircraft pitch attitude on the ground. Equations for footprint dimensions and areas are required in calculations related to tyre behaviour on wet or flooded runways. The equations are found to represent load-deflection characteristics and contact area length well and some data have been verified for speeds up to 100 knots.
