IHS ESDU Elastic stress and strain distributions around circular holes in infinite plates of orthotropic material (applicable to fibre reinforced composites). 85001

Description
ESDU 85001 introduces a Fortran program (ESDUpac A8501) that yields the stress and strain distribution around the circumference of a hole in an orthotropic sheet under any combination of in-plane direct and shear loading. The output includes the stresses and strains in the orthogonal directions of the plate axes, and the stresses and strains acting circumferentially and normal to the circumference of the hole. Input to the program may be one of: the equivalent elastic properties of the complete laminate, the equivalent elastic properties of each individual layer, or the in-plane stiffness terms of the stiffness matrix for the complete laminate. Guidance is given on interpretation of the results when used to assess in-plane failure of laminated composites. The data should be applied to large holes in thin laminates where the diameter is greater than five times the thickness, and are satisfactory when the edge of the hole is at least 1.5 hole diameters away from the laminate edge or other feature.
