ESDU 83044 gives plasticity correction factors for plate and flange structural elements subjected to compression or shear loading. This allows the elastic buckling stresses computed for structures comprising such elements to be extended beyond the limit of proportionality of the material. The plasticity correction factors are given in both equation and graphical form and are accompanied by detailed notes on their use. ESDU 83044 is intended to be used with generalised stress-strain curves for metallic materials as defined in ESDU 76016 and can be applied to any results for elastic plate and flange buckling obtained using ESDU data, such as ESDU 70003 on panels with unflanged integral stiffeners and ESDU 76023 on lipped and unlipped channel sections.
