ESDU 80041 provides background information and guidance on factors important in the selection, arrangement and mechanical support of refractory lining systems. The information given assists with specification writing and tender preparation and appraisal of refractory lining systems for high temperature processes including metal treatment, chemical and petro-chemical processing, glass and pottery manufacture, steam supply, heat exchange and venting of high temperature exhaust gases. The data provided include mechanical and thermal properties of a range of refractories, ceramic fibres and back-up insulation as well as the applicability of fixing and mechanical support systems. Guidance is given on the interpretation of test data and manufacturers' data.
