ESDU 80004 provides basic fatigue data on which to assess the endurance of steel coned disc springs (Belleville washers) either singly or in combinations. Fatigue data on coned disc springs are such that a proper analysis of the major factors controlling the fatigue strength cannot be carried out. The data provided cover fatigue failure location, both in single washers and in stacks, and provide the fatigue strength in terms of a nominal strength only. Notes are provided on change in performance characteristics during service and the effects of manufacturing technique and surface finish on fatigue strength.
