ESDU 79031 gives graphs showing the results of over 1000 constant amplitude tensile fatigue tests drawn from the literature plotted as alternating stress against endurance. Data are available for naturally- and artificially-aged aluminium-copper alloy and for artificially-aged aluminium-zinc alloy. The joints had two or three rows of rivets of various types including snaphead and countersunk. The plotted data show the effects of mean stress, material, rivet type, and joint geometry in terms of rivet pitch, row pitch and rivet size. These effects are highlighted and discussed in the accompanying notes. The location of failure is also discussed.
