IHS ESDU Flat panels in shear. Post-buckling analysis. 77014

Description
ESDU 77014 gives data for the analysis of a panel (that is, a thin plate reinforced by orthogonal edge stiffeners) carrying a shear load in which the plate has buckled to give a diagonal tension field. The proportion of shear reacted by the tension can be found using ESDU 77018. Data, based largely on a correlation of experimental information, enable the following to be determined: maximum shear stress at plate failure at a buckle or at the rivet line, compressive stress in the stiffener, end load and bending moment acting on the flanges as a result of the diagonal tension field, the loading along the flange-to-plate connection, and the secant and tangent moduli of the panel. A practical worked example illustrates the use of the data.
