The purpose of the tank is to provide storage for the oil, to allow settling of solid and liquid contaminants and to promote de-aeration and foam removal. ESDU 68039 gives guidance on the design of tanks for forced-circulation oil-lubrication systems. Also included is guidance on the design and function of the various constituent components used in tanks. ESDU 68039 covers: (i) tank volume required (ii) constituent parts and their function (iii) tank construction.
