R12860 is a head-on type photomultiplier tube with a 508 mm diameter hemispherical window and a 460 mm effective photocathode area, designed for high energy physics applications such as neutrino and cosmic-ray experiments. It features a bialkali photocathode, borosilicate glass window, and spectral response from 300 nm to 650 nm with a peak at 420 nm. The tube has a 20-pin base conforming to JEDEC No. B20-102, operates at a maximum supply voltage of 2500 V, and has a typical gain of 1.0 × 10^7. Its rise time is 2.4 ns, electron transit time is 95 ns, and dark current is 500 nA at room temperature after 15 hours of storage in darkness. The device is rated for ambient and storage temperatures from -30 °C to +50 °C with a maximum interelectrode capacitance of 35 pF between anode and last dynode.
