FTL Technology PTFE Bearings

Description
PTFE bearings are uniquely suited to applications where low friction and dry running are critically important. PTFE bearings have the added benefit of having a wide operational temperature range (-260⁰C to +260⁰C). PTFE bearings are also commonly used in a wide variety of lubricated applications and because of their excellent chemical resistance, are often used in preference to other types of plastic materials. PTFE bearings exhibit very low levels of dynamic friction and virtually zero stick slip characteristics. Overall, the mechanical properties of PTFE bearings are excellent. Good dimensional stability and very low water absorption give this material an appealing range of load bearing qualities. In comparison to other plain bearing systems, PTFE bearings have only a comparatively low load carrying ability. Maximum compressive loads are generally limited to 10 n/mm² whilst linear velocities of 5m/s can be achieved. PTFE bearings are manufactured with various fillers and combinations of fillers added to the base material. PTFE bearings can be injection moulded, skived into strip or machined to give the product its final form. This gives FTL Technology the ability to offer solutions which are tailored to the application parameters and manufacturing volumes in question. Special attention should be paid to the hardness and surface finish of the dynamic counter surface. FTL Technology has a wealth of experience and can advise all manufacturing details of the surrounding hardware interface. Advantages: High strength Low water absorption High dimensional stability High solvent resistance Low coefficient of friction Virtually zero stick/slip Common Applications: Hydraulic cylinder bearings Valve spindles Reciprocating compressor systems Chemical pumps Pneumatic cylinders Medical apparatus
