Spring strut bearings provide an elastic connection on the car body between the shock absorbers and the support spring (superstructure spring) in the case of front wheel suspension. The dynamic forces of the shock absorber and the superstructure springs are isolated from the vehicle body by the spring strut mount. As a result, the vehicle body drones less as the result of road-related excitation. As the front axle is steerable and the spring struts rotate with the wheels, there is a need for antifriction bearings that the helical springs can use for support. Decoupled spring strut mounts must be configured in such a way that they can support the helical spring and piston rod separately.

To ensure good isolation of structure-borne vibration, bushings must be designed with minimal spring stiffness. What is more, very resiliently tuned bearings require long spring travel distances or markedly progressive spring stops for high force peaks. To dampen wheel body frequencies, rubber bushings with a hydraulic damping mechanism are used nowadays. The damping maximum of the hydraulic bushings are attuned to the wheel frequency. In terms of stiffness and damping, hydraulic bushings exhibit a marked frequency-dependency that leads to a dynamic hardening of stiffness above the wheel's natural frequency.

The elastomer spring, with high temperature- and aging-resistance, is made of synthetic rubber (SBR/CR).
