The 74HCT280D is a 9-bit parity generator and checker that provides both even and odd parity outputs. The even parity output (PE) is HIGH when an even number of data inputs (I0 to I8) are HIGH, while the odd parity output (PO) is HIGH when an odd number of data inputs are HIGH. This device allows for easy expansion to larger word sizes by cascading multiple units, connecting the even outputs of up to nine devices to the final stage data inputs. It features input levels compliant with TTL standards and includes clamp diodes for interfacing with higher voltages than the supply voltage (V_{CC}). The product is specified for operation in a temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C and offers ESD protection exceeding 2000 V for HBM and 200 V for MM. The 74HCT280D is available in a plastic shrink small outline package (SSOP14) with 14 leads.
