Nylon insulated terminals start as a standard butted seam terminal with a brass sleeve over the barrel and the nylon insulation is molded over this brass barrel. These terminals should be crimped twice, once on the copper conductor in the wire and once on the insulation part of the wire. This second crimp helps provide a stronger connection, can act as a strain relief, and is recommended when the terminal is subject to vibration.
These ring terminals simply fit over a stud and are secured in place with a nut to hold them in place and conduct electricity. They are connected to any wire of the correct gauge by slipping the exposed end of the wire into the end of the insulation, and crimping it in place so that the wire contacts the metal inside. An additional crimp can also be made to the end of the insulation creating an extra point of contact between the wire insulation and terminal insulation, creating a stronger hold.
