Description USA 420 is a martensitic stainless steel similar to USA 410, but with a higher level of carbon. This increased carbon content gives the weld deposit greater hardness, providing for excellent abrasion resistance as well as moderate corrosion resistance. Weld deposits will work-harden when put into service and so this filler metal is commonly used for surfacing applications. Preheat and postweld heat treatment is recommended.
