The OC150G is a high voltage opto-coupler designed for applications requiring electrical isolation. It features an LED with a forward DC current rating of 100 mA and a surge current capability of 1.5 A for 100 ¬µs. The reverse voltage for the LED is limited to 5 V. The photodiode within the OC150G can withstand a reverse voltage of up to 15,000 V and has a power dissipation rating of 1.0 W. The device operates effectively within a temperature range of -40¬8C to +70¬8C and has a storage temperature range of -40¬8C to +100¬8C. It provides an isolation test voltage of 25 kV between the input and output pins. The typical forward voltage for the LED at 100 mA is 1.5 V, while the photodiode exhibits a maximum forward voltage of 18.0 V at 0.3 A. The device has a minimum DC current transfer ratio of 0.20% at 50 mA LED current and 15 kV reverse voltage. Engineers considering the OC150G should note its suitability for high voltage applications, particularly where isolation is critical.
Available in a clear molded package, VMI’s 10kV and 15kV version optocouplers are fabricated with two infrared LEDs. VMI’s 25kV optocoupler, the OC250 is assembled in shell with enough isolation to allow it to be operated in air without the need for additional insulation. All optocouplers are rated for 25kV isolation voltage between the LEDs and the high voltage diode.
Utilizing the photo-sensitive nature of silicon, VMI has created a line of high voltage optocouplers and opto-diodes. VMI’s optocouplers and opto-diodes are available in 10kV and 15kV versions and can be assembled in series configuration for additional standoff voltage capability.
