No thread simply do not have any threads. They are used for stops, handles, location pins etc. These studs are used to anchor refractory to water walls in the power generation industry and to facilitate heat transfer in many applications.
Special secondary operations such as grooving and cross-drilling expand the uses for these fasteners.
