The Sierra Instruments SteelMass® Model 640S is an immersible thermal gas mass flow meter designed for industrial gas flow measurement in demanding applications. It features a 3/4-inch diameter 316SS probe available in lengths from 6 to 42 inches and is offered with hazardous-area enclosures (E2, E3, E4) or NEMA 4X enclosures (N2, N4). The meter supports 18-30 VDC or 100-240 VAC input power and provides linear output signals of 0-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC, or 4-20 mA. It includes patented Dry-Sense™ technology to eliminate sensor drift, a one-second response time to flow changes, and an optional 2×12 LCD display. The device is certified for hazardous locations with FM, CSA, ATEX, GOST R/RTN, and CE approvals. Calibration temperatures reach up to 350°F (176°C), with a high-temperature option to 750°F (400°C). Accuracy is ±1% of reading plus ±0.5% of full scale.
Steel-Mass® 640S gas mass flow meters accurately monitor total gas mass flow rate of gases and insert easily into ducts and pipes up to 72-inches. Larger probe lengths are available upon request. Typical applications for gas mass flow meters include compressed air flow, aeration basin air flow, combustion air flow, natural gas fuel flow, boiler efficiency, custody transfer and stack gas emissions flow monitoring. The Model 640S gas flow meters also features a high temperature option ( 750 degrees F) and a self-cleaning purge option for dirty flow environments.
The Model 640S is offered with a wide range of process connections (including hot tap). For very large ducts, multipoint flow averaging arrays are available, complete with a self-contained human-machine interface (HMI) panel that allows for touch-screen field programming and operation of the entire system.
This meter features Sierra's well known Smart Electronics Package for field-rangeability, field flow-range adjustment, and field validation and diagnostics. The Model 640S has very low pressure drop, and wide turndown. The Steel-Mass™ Model 640S is hazardous area approved by CSA and CRN (Canada), FM (USA), ATEX, CE and PED (EU), IEC Ex (Australia), GOST R (Russian Federation) and Chinese Pattern Approval (China). Meter accuracy is +/- 1% of reading plus +/-0.5% of full scale with repeatability of +/- 0.2% of full scale.
