Spring alignment dowels are hollow, roll-formed hardened bushings designed to align mating components, eliminate separate bolt holes, and protect bolts from shear loading by isolating forces to tension. They feature a spring-action staggered seam for self-retention after installation, lead-in chamfers to facilitate insertion, and a controlled inside diameter to accommodate bolts while minimizing joint slippage. The bushings are installed into drilled or cored holes and assume the hole diameter through spring expansion.
Spring alignment dowels are used to accurately locate components with respect to each other. They are formed around arbors to assure roundness. It is recommended that one half the hole tolerance be used for the fixed location of the dowel and one half for the hole in the mating part.
