Compared to the 577 the 577-A (and 577-AS) is identical , but has automatic gain control, increase electronic stability, CE-compliance, and external power supply. The 577-AS is identical to the 577, but comes ruggedized in a stainess steel box and has an internal power supply rather than an external power adapter. It is well adapted for the factory floor.
